Solid Copper Tongue Scraper
  • Solid Copper Tongue Scraper

Our mouths harbour billions of microorganisms, some of which can contribute to the development of systemic disease. Tongue Scraping is the ancient Ayurvedic practice of cleansing the mouth by gently removing accumulation on the tongue. This ritual is proven to decrease oral microbial count, strengthen the mouth's muscles, freshen breath, and assist the body in drawing out impurities and toxins. In Ayurveda, it also removes Ama from your physiology, which is considered an accumulation of toxic residue of the mind and body, resulting in improved physical and spiritual well-being. In addition, this ancient practice helps to stimulate the internal organs through energetic connections with the rest of the body. A nourishing way to start every day - like a small meditation that reminds you to care for yourself from sunrise to sundown.

Our solid copper tongue scraper is naturally antibacterial, non-porous, and easy to clean. Simply rinse in cool water after each use, and dry thoroughly!

    Benefits of regular use include:

    • Enhanced oral hygiene, improved breath and reduced plaque.
    • A healthful and robust oral microbiome that impacts the entire body.
    • Less VSC (Volatile Sulfur Compounds), a byproduct of bacteria.
    • Improved sense of taste, allowing for a finessed flavour palate.
    • A more balanced production of Keratin, or the protective cells that can overproduce when not removed, leading to bad breath.
    • Peace and connection to the spiritual body through self care.

    The Ritual:

Each morning, simply place the copper scraper on the tongue as far back as is comfortable and gently scrape towards the front of the mouth. It is not necessary to scrape hard, and it should feel soothing and non-irritating. Scrape from back to front up to 15 strokes, rinsing as needed when there is accumulation. Rinse the mouth with cool water and the scraper, and dry the tool thoroughly before storing it for the next day.

Copper lustre may dull with time and regular use, and this is normal and expected. If you wish to return your copper scraper to its original shine, you can polish it by creating a paste with a tsp of salt, a tsp of flour, and vinegar followed, and scrub with a soft cloth. Rinse and dry. This is not required to maintain the tool, but only a personal preference.

Tongue Scraping is even more beneficial when it follows a session of Oil Pulling. Swish organic coconut oil in the mouth for 5-20 minutes, spit out the used oil and proceed to scrape the tongue.
